The Kennedy Company was established in 1863 by Thomas Kennedy with the aim of producing patent-protected water meters. In 1865 the Glenfield Company was established which manufactured manhole covers and other infrastructure products. The two companies merged in 1899 and were one of the largest products companies for the UK water sector.
